Aristotle's God: The Thought That Thinks Itself

According to Aristotle, there is motion in the universe, and it is impossible for this motion to be linked indefinitely to another mover.

Therefore, there must be a first principle that does not move but sets everything in motion. This first principle is immaterial, unchanging, and pure activity. Aristotle defines this being as thought.

This thought does not think of any object; for to think of something external would imply dependence on it.

Thus, the most perfect being can think only of what is most perfect. And what is most perfect is, in turn, itself.
